We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Patient Care Specialist (working both as a Surgical Assistant in the surgery room and Medical Assistant in the clinic) to join our team immediately. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, playing a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the comprehensive care experience and surgical procedures we offer. The Patient Care Specialist always functions with exceptional patient care to both surgical and non-surgical patients. This position offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic environment, as part of a close-knit team, supporting patients, doctors and clinicians both in and out of the surgical suite.
Job Purpose
The Patient Care Specialist will serve in two well-known roles: (1) as a Surgical Assistant they will assist the doctor during surgery by performing duties such as tissue retraction, assisting the operation of equipment under the direction of the surgeon, and dressing surgical wounds; (2) as a Medical Assistant they will help in clinic as the doctor sees patients before and after surgery, and will help answer patient questions and concerns by phone, text and email before and after surgery.

As Surgical Technician
· Document patient vital signs, report abnormalities.
· Perform limited patient assessments within the scope of practice
· Assist patients with proper administration of medication under direction of the physician.
· Prepare and apply sterile wound dressings. Assist in applying sutures, drainage systems and bandaging to control bleeding. Remove sutures.
· Prepare and maintain a sterile surgical field, ensuring all equipment is properly sterilized and ready for use.
· Maintain accurate patient records, including photography as needed, documentation of procedures, medications, and supplies used.
· Support the surgical team with patient positioning, prepping the surgical site, and managing surgical instruments.
· Ensure compliance with all safety protocols, infection control procedures, and regulatory standards.
· Provide emotional support and education to patients and their families, addressing concerns or questions (within scope) about the surgical process.
· Assist with procedure room inventory management.
· Determine availability of necessary equipment and supplies for operative procedures.
· Assist in the operation of basic surgical equipment under the direct supervision of the surgeon, after completion of training.
· Maintain and inspect sterile or nonsterile surgical equipment, instruments, and supplies.
· As necessary, assist with patient resuscitation during cardiac arrests or other life-threatening events.
· Monitor patient status including patient position, vital signs, and volume and color of blood during operations.
· Perform and report CLIA-waved tests while in clinic.
· Other duties as assigned.
As Medical Assistant
· When not directly assisting doctor, answer phones, text and emails during office hours, including returning any messages from the current or previous business day.
· Articulate the benefits of our comprehensive care model, therapeutic and aesthetic treatments and the impact it will have on patients’ lives.
· Have clear knowledge of and the ability to explain our treatment options and how it compares to other treatment options.
· Have a knowledge of the treatments we provide from beginning to end, including what to expect before, during and after treatment.
· Assist patients in scheduling and confirming appointments.
· Greet and room patients for exam, consult or follow up appointments, initiate patient record through EMR.
· Assist doctor during exams as needed.
· Manage inbound and outbound patient referrals
· Assist in advocating on behalf of patients with other providers, pharmacies and insurance groups.
· Manage clinical documents appropriately, updating the doctor and actioning requested responses.
· Keep office space organized. Maintain proficient skills on multiphone line telephone systems, fax, scanner, EMR, apple systems and hardware.
· Keep the Office Manager apprised of any supply needs.
Skills and Qualifications
· Active license in the State of Washington as a Medical Assistant or Surgical Technician required
· Current CPR certification required.
· Prior experience as a Medical Assistant or Surgical Technician necessary.
· Certified Surgical Technician (CST), preferred. Some exceptional candidates may be able to obtain state certification through apprenticeship route here on the job (requires employment commitment)
· Basic knowledge of medical terminology.
· Knowledge of bloodborne pathogens and biosafety, required.
· Ability to work well under stressful and emergency situations.
· Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team using verbal, written, telephonic and electronic tools.
· Attention to detail and the ability to anticipate the needs of the surgeon during procedures.
· Proficiency in maintaining patient records and managing surgical equipment.
· Ability to remain calm and focused in (rare) high-pressure situations.
· Compassionate patient care, with an emphasis on creating a positive and reassuring experience for patients.
· Excellent manual dexterity.

· Ability to foster and maintain interpersonal relationships with patients.
· Bachelor’s degree, preferred.
Work schedule
· Mon.-Fri., 40 hours per week
Physical requirements
· Prolonged periods of standing, reaching, and bending.
· Must be able to briefly lift up to 50 pounds at times.
